Environmental threats can cause a lot of damages, with the potential of wasting tremendous amount of resources during recovery time. Many business operations aim to reach a close to zero fault tolerance environment, and they can do so by using our environment monitoring systems. This systems allows remote proactive monitoring with programmable actions, which make the entire environment monitoring management becomes so simple and more effective.

Monitor Temperature and Smoke The most common environmental threat is heat and fire. Detect critical rises or drops in temperature, smoke, and receive notifications when heating problems occur.

Monitor Humidity Detect abnormal humidity conditions. You define the humidity levels that are appropriate for each sensor's environment.

Detect the Presence of Water Whether it's a tripped sprinkler system or a flash flood, a server room or wiring closet is just about the last place you want to see water. Receive notification as soon as water makes an appearance.

Monitor Physical Security Monitor "dry-contact" devices including motion sensors, door sensors, vibration sensors and smoke detectors.

Control Power Remotely reboot and control power (on/off) to servers and network devices.

SEEMS-2D (SMALL ENTERPRISE ENVIRONMENT MONITORING SYSTEMS)

SEEMS-2D is a remote environment monitoring systems which is normally used in data centre’s server room. It can also be extended to the various usages in private residential, commercial buildings, offices, warehouse, and factories. It supports 2 external configurable sensors, 5 digital inputs, and 1 output relay for control of an external device. It features 2 USB ports for USB modem or USB flash drive. Linux inside.

SEEMS-2D monitors critical environmental conditions (such as temperature, humidity, and water leakage) that could destroy network components in your server room. When a sensor goes out of range of a configurable threshold, the system will notify you via email, SNMP traps, web-page alerts, a visual indicator (red LED), voice phone calls (via Automatic Voice Dialer System), and SMS messages (via USB 3G modem). The system supports two external configurable sensors, five digital input sensors, and one output relay for control of external devices.

SEEMS-2D CONTROL METHODS

Web Interface

  • Configuration can be done over the Internet/LAN or 3G data connection via web page. 3G data connection requires a USB 3G modem
  • Supports Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher, Firefox 1.5 and higher, Netscape 9, Google Chrome, Safari 1.3, and higher for MAC, and Safari 3.0 and higher for PC
  • Configure sensor’s thresholds, alarm methods, formats of alerts, and system data log
  • View/edit sensor’s current values, thresholds, and alert statuses. All sensors connected to SEEMS-2D can be viewed on one summary page. User configuratble settings allow sensors to return to normal status when alert condition clears, without manually acknowledging/dismissing the alert
  • View/edit entries stored in the systems logs. Event log records system events such as alerts, user login/logout, failed email messages, etc. Data log records samples of sensor readings. User specified sampling time period. Both the event log and data log store up to 1,000 entries. The log can be downloaded as a tab-delimited plain text files
  • Configure IP information (address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS, etc), user administrative settings, and data logging settings

Front Panel Interface

EXAMPLE 1: Connecting SEEMS-2D with MEEMS-5D, LEEMS-16D, EMS-MNG and SCRPRS-4 via Internet

MEEMS-5D is Medium Enterprise Environmental Monitoring Systems, and it has 5 RJ45 sensor ports, 5 digital inputs, and 2 output relays.

LEEMS-16D is Large Enterprise Environmental Monitoring Systems, and it has 16 RJ45 sensor ports, 8 digital inputs, and 4 output relays.

SCRPRS-4 is a Secure Remote Power Reboot Switch, to remotely reboot and control power (on/off) to up to 4 servers or other powered devices from any location via secure web interface, RS232, SSH, or Telnet. Another model SCRPRS-8 has the same function to control up to 8 servers or other powered devices.

EMS-MNG is the management application for sensor management, live monitoring / reading.

SEEMS-2D, MEEMS-5D, and LEEMS-16D can be easily cascaded using RJ45 connection via LAN connection. If the equipments are not in the same LAN, then connectivity via Internet VPN tunnel is also possible.

EXAMPLE 2: Connecting SEEMS-2D with 32 smoke detectors

EMS-SDS-CEPA is smoke detectors. DIOE-1616 is digital input output expander, with 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs.

Even though SEEMS-2D only has 5 digital inputs, it can be expanded to another 32 digital inputs by using 2 units of DIOE-1616. The setup is very easy to do. One DIOE-1616 can be connected to 16 smoke detectors or open/close sensors.

MEEMS-5D, can be connected to 80 smoke detectors or open/close sensors.

LEEMS-16D can be connected to 256 smoke detectors or open/close sensors.

With EMS-MNG, SEEMS-2D, MEEMS-5D, and LEEMS-16D can be joined up to 3,000 devices, with the potential of monitoring up to 768,000 smoke detectors or open/close sensors.

EXAMPLE 3: Remote alert via SMS

SEEMS-2D, MEEMS-5D, and LEMMS-16D allows open/close sensors to be connected via digital input port, and RJ45 sensors connected via RJ45 sensor ports. Each sensor can be assigned unique customized ID for easy identification.

Open/close sensors only produce 2 types of input (1 or 0 / open or close).

RJ45 sensors can return a wide range of values, such as: the temperature, and humidity reading.

EXAMPLE 4: Use Smart Alerts to Inhibit Motion Sensor When Entering a Room Using a Keypad

Events and Smart Alerts can be set-up to enable a configuration that will allow the disabling of motion sensors during the time an operator enters an enclosed area via a keypad, but will re-arm the motion sensors when he exits the area and re-enters the keypad code. This requires the keypad output relay, which will be programmed in "Start/Stop" mode instead of timed delay, to be connected as a digital input to the SEEMS-2D and an output relay from the SEEMS-2D that will activate the door strike when the correct code is entered.

EXAMPLE 5: Monitoring Fluid Level Using SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D

EMS-ULT is a general purpose non-contract ultrasonic level transmitter for small tanks 49.2” (1.25 m) or less. EMS-ULT enables flexible design applications for system integration or retrofit of floats, conductance, and pressure sensors. The EMS-ULT is well suited for handling and chemical feed applications integrating process or control automation of small tanks mounted on tools, skids or machines. The rugged PVDF enclosure is ideal for a wide range of corrosive, waste or slurry type media, and can be broadly selected for atmospheric day tank, process vessel or dispenser, pump lift station, and waste pump applications. Level indication can be monitored using a local display or controlled through a PLC.

When connected to EMS-S420MA-24V sensor converter using 2-wire cable, the EMS-ULT will send fluid level status information to an SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D up to 1000 feet away from EMS-S420MA-24V. The fluid level can be monitored remotely by connecting to the SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D through an Ethernet connection. Additionally, the SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D can be configured to send alerts via email, SMS, SNMP, and syslog when fluid levels reach configurable values.

MEEMS-5D CONTROL METHODS

Web Interface

  • Configuration can be done over the Internet/LAN or 3G data connection via web page. 3G data connection requires a USB 3G modem
  • Supports Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher, Firefox 1.5 and higher, Netscape 9, Google Chrome, Safari 1.3, and higher for MAC, and Safari 3.0 and higher for PC
  • Configure sensor’s thresholds, alarm methods, formats of alerts, and system data log
  • View/edit sensor’s current values, thresholds, and alert statuses. All sensors connected to MEEMS-5D can be viewed on one summary page. User configuratble settings allow sensors to return to normal status when alert condition clears, without manually acknowledging/dismissing the alert
  • View/edit entries stored in the systems logs. Event log records system events such as alerts, user login/logout, failed email messages, etc. Data log records samples of sensor readings. User specified sampling time period. Both the event log and data log store up to 1,000 entries. The log can be downloaded as a tab-delimited plain text files
  • Configure IP information (address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS, etc), user administrative settings, and data logging settings
  • Up to 16 users can access the web page at one time
  • Configure up to 50 sensor conditions (events)
  • Configure up to 20 Smart Alerts to use different event combinations to send alert messages
  • Up to 5 units can be used together to increase the number of sensors connected. Cascade up to 4 SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D as slaves to one SEEMS-2D/MEEMS-5D/LEEMS-16D master unit via Ethernet connection. Each master and slave unit needs its own unique IP address
  • Uses a single web interface for all systems/sensors connected

Front Panel Interface

  • LED indicates:
    • “Fault” (red) lights up if a sensor goes out of range of a configurable threshold
    • “Power” (green) lights up when the device is powered
  • Restore Defaults button – use to manually restore the MEEMS-2D back to factory settings
  • System Reset button – use to manually reboot/restart the firmware for the MEEMS-2D

USB Serial Interface / Telnet / SSH

  • Configure, control, and monitor over the text-based menu system accessible via USB console port, Telnet, and SSH
  • Access is controlled via username/password. System stores encrypted login information
  • Two user levels: user and administrator

Network Operation

  • Automatically configures network settings received from a connected DHCP server. If a DHCP server is not found, the default static IP address will be used
  • SNMP support, allowing integration into network management platforms. Control output relays via SNMP SET commands to power on/off external devices. SET command can be sent from SNMP software, MIB browser (Windows), or command line (Linux)
  • Updating the system firmware

Mobile Summary Page

  • View summary page on mobile devices – smartphones, tablets, etc
  • Summary page lists all connected sensors’ current values and alert statuses

Open Source Monitoring Integration
